And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men…
— Colossians 3:23 (NKJV)
I offer the following professional services to authors anywhere in the world:
Ghostwriting is for folks who want me to write their books for them or rewrite a manuscript they already have. You will see your book at various stages of the writing work for revisions and editing. When I am finished writing your book, it will be ready for publishing and selling worldwide.
Editing as a stand-alone service is for folks who have already written manuscripts that don’t need rewriting. These clients want me to work with what they have already finished. The level of editing required depends on what the book needs:
— Developmental Editing is an all-encompassing edit that fixes sentence structure and flow problems, points out content issues for the author to resolve, and provides ideas for further development. This level of editing also includes fixing grammar issues and proofreading errors.
— Copy Editing is often called “line editing,” and resolves grammar and wordsmithing issues (i.e., changing passive voice to active, fixing clumsy sentences and awkward transitions, etc.). There is no content or flow work in copy editing alone.
— Proofreading fixes errors only, or as I like to say “things that are just plain wrong.” This should be the last thing done before the author sends the book to layout (formatting) or to press.
If your book is more than 20,000 words, I will provide a free sample edit of the first 1400 words.
Formatting (interior layout) comes after the writing and editing process. It means laying out the pages to make the book print-ready. I’ve always called this stage “layout,” but most authors today call it “formatting.” All formatting is done in Adobe InDesign, and you will receive PDFs for review and publishing purposes.
Cover designs are done after the layout (formatting) is finished. If you do not have a photo to use for the front cover, I will supply one. The back cover usually contains your author photo and bio, a summary of your book, or a combination of both.
Publishing and distribution are done after your book is complete. I will upload the finished layout and covers to your Amazon account and put the ISBN on it, which makes your book available to anyone who wants to list it for sale.
